Open Rehearsals

Three dates. One orchestra. All free!

For the 2008-2009 season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop will open the doors to three different concert rehearsals for middle school, high school and college students. Open rehearsals at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall are free, thanks to a generous grant from Legg Mason! The opportunity is too good to pass up.

Please note that some of the works on the concert program may not be rehearsed at the open rehearsal.

Bach, Rouse & Tchaikovsky
Hear the music of your time while Music Director Marin Alsop and the BSO prepare the East Coast premiere of Concerto for Orchestra by Baltimore's own Christopher Rouse! Observe the musicians of the Orchestra as soloists in Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 or listen to one of Tchaikovsky's most famous symphonies, the Symphony "Pathétique."

Cirque de la Symphonie
Brace yourself for the awe-inspiring moment when Cirque meets the Symphony! Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly and the BSO perform orchestral hits while stunning aerial feats, strongmen, mind-boggling contortionists, and juggling acts take your breath away!

Romeo and Juliet
Join James Gaffigan, conductor, and Christopher O'Riley, pianist and entertaining host of public broadcasting's From the Top, to hear elements of Jazz in Ravel's Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. Also to be performed in concert are Bernstein's On the Town, selections from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, and Mozart's ballet music from Idomeneo.

* Repertoire to be rehearsed has not yet been determined, but any of the above are possible. Call four weeks prior for exact repertoire.
